Identification K-6
A variety of mechanisms are used to support the identification of Gifted and Talented students. These are used at different year levels and are used to inform and develop learning activities that extend these students in their thinking. Both Psychometric and system wide testing results are used for identifying. Other formal testing which is used to guide programming are:
- PIPS Kindergarten. (Performance Indicators In the Primary)
- ACTAP year 3 and year 5.
- French testing year 3 and year 6.
- Uni of NSW Science/Maths/English competition
*Teacher nomination:
Formal and informal identification is conducted throughout the year.
*Parent nomination:
Parents have an insight into behaviours and characteristics which aren’t always apparent in the classroom. Parents should approach the Deputy Principal to obtain a profile document.
*Student nomination:
This is a more informal way of seeking input from the students and can be done orally or in written form.
The Primary Challenge Program operates within the harmonised curriculum of the school’s bilingual program. Learning another language in itself is challenging. The uniqueness of the primary bilingual program and the outstanding results of the students has been acknowledged internationally.
The Challenge program provides a differentiated curriculum within the framework of the normal class room. This includes:-
Building and expanding skills commensurate with the ability of each child
Developing self confidence and feeling of self worth.
Fostering divergent thinking and evaluative thinking skills.
Encouraging risk taking and commitment to academic excellence.
Enrichment activities are an important part of all students’ learning and as such are not exclusively the domain of a Gifted and Talented child's learning.
Students have access to other programs including:
- GATE
- ACT Gifted and Talented Network
- Chess
- Double Helix Club
- Music
- National and local competitions
