On Thursday 21 October, a group of Year 9 – 10 students participated in the Engineering workshops organised by Newcastle University and held the Great Hall in Parliament House. The group of 30 students were divided into teams to tackle the challenges, which culminated in one team coming second in the bridge challenge, Siobhan P. - Anastasia Paris DA - Teia C. An interesting event for all participants, which should hopefully be an annual occurrence and being held so close to TPS we certainly anticipate ongoing participation!
This year only a few students submitted independent science projects for the Science Fair. Two of them were successful:
1st in Physical Sciences
The Effect of Water Temperature on the Drag Force Exerted on an Object
Highly Recommended, Physical Sciences
The Obstruction of Ionizing Particles
Both of these students automatically entered into the BHP Foundation Science and Engineering Awards for this year, and the results will be known early 2020.
