Last week a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Year 7 to 10 participated in the 2019 Sydney Cultural Trip.
On day one students learnt all about the Gadigal people with a Giba-Nura guided tour of The Rocks district and then enjoyed an extended ferry cruise after getting on the wrong ferry.
In the evening, students enjoyed a sleepover at Taronga Zoo, meeting some of the animals as they slept in their enclosures. The girls then slept in a room with snakes, turtles and frogs, and the boys shared a room with cockroaches and stick insects.
The next morning students were treated to a behind the scenes tour of the bird enclosure, and learnt more about some of Australia’s more vulnerable desert creatures.
Before heading home the group challenged themselves with an adrenaline pumping high ropes course above the Zoo, and enjoyed a fish and chips lunch at the iconic Balmoral Beach.
